At Manchester Tutor Company we provide excellent support for all our students. This week we’ve decided to discuss GCSE maths revision, because although it seems simple there are methods that work more effectively than others. A big mistake that students often make is using practice papers before they understand the content. This should be avoided as it wastes a limited recourse which is often the most challenging. It’s best to become confident with the content first, which can be done by using MME questions by topic. These cover the whole specification for your exam and are sorted by exam board to ensure you learn the correct content.
Starting the GCSE maths questions might seem daunting at first, so it helps to break it down into smaller sections. Do each topic one at a time and mark it before moving on to the next. When you mark the questions, make notes of where you dropped marks. As you complete the topics you can slowly create a summary of areas for improvement. This list can then later be used in your revision to highlight specific methods to further go over so you can be sure you’re happy with everything before starting the practice papers.
Once you’re confident with the content, you can move on to GCSE maths practice papers. You essentially want to follow the same steps again, continuing to learn from your mistakes. By finishing all the practice papers you can gain a wider understanding of what the exams will be like and have exposure to all types of questions.
