At Manchester Tutor Company we provide the best possible support for all our students. A lot of students come to us and ask how to get a maths GCSE quickly. There isn’t a simple answer to this question as there isn’t one route to take, so in this post we are going to look at those options.

Although it may seem like the easiest option, the standard GCSE route has a lot of limitations that cause it to not be a good option for a lot of learners. GCSE maths consists of 3 paper based exams which are sat in May/June and November on predetermined dates. To sit each paper you would have to travel to a registered exam centre on the 3 dates and times given. GCSE papers can only be sat in these exam centres and the dates cannot be changed. This is the main issue that steers a lot of learners away from these exams because they are busy on the set dates or can’t get to the exam centre. The best option to use instead is functional skills maths level 2. This is a great option for students who require more flexibility because there aren’t set exam periods so you can choose when to do it and you can sit your exam from your home. Similarly to the GCSE exams, functional skills still follow ofqual regulations. This just means the exam is sat under regulated conditions and has checks to be completed before. This allows the exam to be accepted by universities and employers as a GCSE grade C equivalent. Results for functional skills exams tend to be a lot faster, most students receive them in a number of days. Compared to GCSE results that take around 6 weeks, so based on this alone functional skills are the fastest way to get GCSE maths. GCSE equivalency tests are the other exam available, although these aren’t as widely accepted by universities and employers because they are more targeted towards teacher training.

When considering these options, it’s important to choose what will work best for you. How to get a maths GCSE does depend on multiple factors such as how quick you need results and the time of year.
